Directors Update - Playoff Push, Olympic Gold?

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."

A busy week of training for PEAC athletes who are in different stages of their seasons, four sessions left until March break.

Best of luck to all the players that are still competing for league hardware and championships, and get the golf clubs out for our players with early exits to the off season. Nice work to the 94 Nats boys, good luck Cody, Rob and the Junior Canadians who will battle to meet Cosimo, Austin and Bo in the GTHL AAA minor midget final.

This time of year is interesting with regards to athletes focus and training regimes. Players who are still playing, are ending long seasons; should assess and monitor their minor injuries like muscle pulls, strains and bruises, these all need to be iced, assessed and treated frequently to play at full health. Maintenance and recovery is also very important after training sessions and on ice work, athletes should be consuming adequate amounts of water, while playing every other night. Like always, diet while in school is important for replenishment and game preparation. Players like Adam Bateman have taken advantage of an early off season by hitting the weights hard and maximizing his opt out days. Athletes with minor injuries are encouraged to take some time off after a long season to recuperate their injuries and get ready for a heavy loading period in the weight room.

A formal welcome to Dave Wells of Performance Goaltending, Dave has been added to the PEAC Goaltending program as an instructor and will be filling in for Kay when his NHL commitments occur.

Great win by Canada tonight, although I feel kinda bad for Dmitra, a great job by Slovakia who have shown gutsy efforts night in night out in this tournament, yes I watch the majority of the 12:05am EST face offf, and I'm sure my period one class can certainly attest to those mindless mornings. The thing that strikes me in a situation that is very positive, is the absent minded Canadian fans in attendance who are chanting bring on the USA with 7+ minutes to go, wake up people! These guys are elite professional athletes playing for an olympic gold medal, they can and did put the puck in the net and the last thing they needed was the extra motivation the fans and media provided by writing them off before and during the game. Canada was lucky that game didn't go to overtime and the mental lapses seen in the third period will be exploited against a tougher US opponent. One thing for sure is that Canada will not under estimate the US on Sunday, the effort can should in the first period of the Russia game and the final 2 minutes of the US game will be the intensity required to get the job done. I have no doubt the coaches will get the boys ready to go and the will have their chances, sets up for a great final Sunday, should be a game to remember!
